These shirts are all great tops from http://www.pacsun.com/. This style of tee shirt is very popular, but the prices go up to about $37. My favorite project this summer was figuring out the cheapest way i could get a similar look. I was then inspired by my pile of old tee shirts. Now, I will share with you my step by step tutorial on how to create your own tee just like these. this DIY is meant for old sports tees. If the shirt has graphics, I sew it so that they are on the inside which means the piping is on the original inside, which becomes the new outside. However, if you want the graphics to show, you can make it so. So go ahead, find your stash and get started! supplies
cuttingChoose a main tee shirt and set it out on a flat surface. Cut the sleeves and bottom to the lengths you want, leaving a couple centimeters on for hemming over. |
First you will need to cut a rectangle of fabric- it should be about as wide as you want the bow and long enough for you to fold it three times up and down and have it at the desired length. Once you have your rectangle, go ahead and fold it over three times in the same direction. |
shaping
To give the bow it's classic shape, you must use a special sewing trick.
- Thread your needle and tie a knot at the end of the thread.
- Have your folded fabric in front of you going in a horizontal direction.
- Begin sewing up the middle of the fabric going over and under.
- When you reach the end, before you tie the ending know and cut the fabric, gently tug the thread to create pleats in your fabric, creating the correct shape.
- tie a knot and cute thread.
finishing the bow
Now that you have your bow shape, all you need is strip of fabric to cover the stitches. I would recommend folding the fabric strip a few times- just like how you folded the fabric at the beginning- and then wrapping it around the middle section and stitching it in the back. attaching to clip |
Now, simply sew your bow to the top of the clip!
- Open clip.
- Thread needle and go through the back of the bow with it.
- Now go around the to of the clip once, and then the bow and pull. Your bow should be loosely attached the the top of the clip.
- Continue going through bow and around the top of the clip until you feel the bow in secure.
Enjoy your bow, and know that your really can sew them to anything- hair ties, pins, hats, purses, etc. :)
When someone says something clashes, it's almost never a good thing. You try to avoid clashing colors al the time, so shouldn't you avoid clashing patterns? Of course not!!! Pattern clashing is fun and adorable, but you must know how to go about doing it.
The most important rule in successful pattern clashing is making sure the patterns are different enough. This is similar to the problems of color clashing- there are colors that are about the same, but different enough to look bad together. There are simple steps to avoid poor pattern clashing.

What do you do when you have an outfit full of blank colors and simple items? Easy, add a statement piece!
Statement pieces are items that you can add to an outfit for an extra something, and they often do the talking. Anything that's original and fun to wear makes the perfect statement piece.
Also, statement pieces don't have to be super noticeable. They can be simple, like a gorgeous watch, which is one of my favorites. It doesn't need to be large, it just has to affect your look and draw extra attention.

Every few posts, I'd like to remind my readers of staple pieces, or pieces that everyone needs and can be worn and look good with almost anything. They are very helpful, especially if you are first trying out this whole "fashion" thing. ;)
My first staple piece would be a good pair of leggings. You may think of leggings as are for when you're feeling lazy, and technically, you're right. Leggings are great for when you're feeling tired or just sick of trying- it happens- except instead of slipping on sweats, slip into a good pair of leggings. Leggings can look polished or chill and look especially great with boots and sneakers. you can even get great patterns.
As far as black leggings go, I would recommend Lulu Lemon. I am aware of just how pricey they are, but trust me, they are a great investment and do only good for your shape.
If you're interested in patterned leggings, I would strongly recommend Forever 21. Forever 21 has lots of great patterns to choose from and even better prices. Click below to go straight to the sights.

Here are a couple ways I keep comfy and classy in my Lulu Lemon leggings:
What is fashion? What is style? Fashion is popular trends, while style is personal- fashion is for everyone, while your style is yours. So how do you take a trend, and make it suitable for you? The first step is understanding what it is you truly like- I would recommend my first post to get an idea of what I mean.
Let's start with an example. A big trend with teenage girls right now is the crop top/high skirt look. Once you know your style, you can take the "basic" version of the look- shown by me on the very right- and make it edgy, boho, high end, or anything.

Maybe you want a new pair of leather boots. Riding boots may be great, or maybe not. Maybe a pair of combat boots suits you best. You have to think about how you define your style, and what you would truly like best.
Ultimately, wear what makes you feel good. Not all trends have to be worn, so if you just don't like something, it's O.K. to skip it all together.

Everyone is different, and since everyone is so wonderfully different, their clothes should do nothing less than reflect one's individuality. There are many different looks you can go for and many different combinations. You are a canvas and your pieces are your paint- create a masterpiece!
A quick walk through
Boho
Short for bohemian, boho is for the lovely free spirited girl. flowy kimonos, washed denim, and gladiators will do you good. below shows a picture of my own boho interpretation- a cooler weather look.
Classic
Red lips, blue button downs, blazers, and khakis, with loafers and flats and riding boots.. This is my favorite style, and below is one of my favorite outfits:
Indie/Street
Modern fashion with an urban twist- graphic tees, combat boots and tribal prints, utility jackets and skater shoes and skirts. This is a fun look.
Girly
Chiffon, playful tees, fun and gorgeous patterns. I love everything about this style.
Of course, there are many variations, and you can mix to opposite styles to balance out the other- something i love to do. These are just some basics. Comments what you liked or disliked about this article as well as your favorite style!
