Hello, party people. It's time for me to tell you what summer 2015 is really all about. You'll be pleased to know that this is probably the most comfortable summer ever. Seriously. First things first, let's get a general idea of how everything should look this season. The main idea is to take your favorite lazy day clothes, and give them a look of luxury. You want to refrain from dull colors and dirty whites. Earthy tones are OUT- brown, military green, beige, etc. HEY, I'm just being honest. You need this. So, if you don't want to be too colorful, stick to black and white. Colors should be bright, almost unnatural, or very light and washed out. O.K. time to get to the details. Shirts this summer are crisp, clean, and nice, but the fabric should be light and comfortable, and the style shouldn't be too tight or elaborate, but if anything, oversized. This comes from middle eastern inspo, which you can find in plenty of fashion stores at this time- think clean and comfortable. Prints, on the other hand, can be elaborate. The bright patterns you choose should maybe have an oriental feel (If you want to class it up. When being casual, think tacky florida gift shop. Im serious!!) Top with classic hoodies and crew necks that follow similar color rules, but not any crazy prints. Cool textures, however, are a go. For jackets, the collarless look is in. Also, go crazy with the patterns and colors. Yay!!!!!!!!!! Pants and shorts have the same color rules. Also, sporty-chic in pretty cool so stock up on joggers and athletic shorts, cool zippers and details welcome. Shoes are still comfortable- enjoy slides and sandals with your fun socks (any length). Some shoe brands to try out are adidas originals, superga, and birkenstock- many stores have similar, often cheaper, plays of these styles to check out. Thanks for reading! I hope you find something cool and comfortable to wear this summer! For more pictures, follow me on instagram @hope_sewinstyle! Thanks again!

My dad recently gave me two identical looking chambray shirts that were pretty large, which meant lots of fabric to do something great with. I decided to make one shirt into a sleeveless shirt, and the other into a button down skirt to match. I started with the skirt. First, I cut off the sleeves and the top of the shirt. Next, while considering my measurements, I cut it into an a line skirt shape, and the rest was pretty easy. For the top, I cut off some of the side, and brought the sleeve location in, keeping a classic curve. Thanks for reading! For more, follow me on instagram @hope_sewinstyle!
Did you know that the easiest thing you can do is turn a pair of your mom or dad's (or in my case, brother's) baggy old jeans that they don't want anymore (also make sure they really don't want them anymore) into hip mom or boyfriend jeans? Well it is. Here are my brother's pants on me before i worked my magic: Very baggy and not very cool or easy to move around in :( Until now!! Nice, am I right? The process is actually very simple, you just need to be very careful and pay great attention to detail.
First turn the jeans inside out. Next grab a ruler and some chalk and draw a line down the pants that is about an inch into the pants from the outside. If you bring them in from the inseam, you could mess up the crotch area, and you really want that looking right! You want to keep drawing about an inch in, then trying them on (inch in, try them on, inch in, try them on) until you get the fit that you want. To get a mom jean look, you want to bring more in at the top, around the waist and thighs. To get a boyfriend jean look, you want to bring in more of the bottom. It's so simple because it's a very personal project- take it and do what you want with it! And remember to keep both legs to same, that's probably the hardest part. In case you didn't know from reading my last post (which documented my first use of nursing scrubs) I'm constantly looking for something new to alter and create with. I don't have a ton of money to spend on fabric, so upcycling is something I spend a lot of my time doing. I've recently done a lot with old nursing scrubs because the shades that make them up are really in this spring. All together, I've used two pairs of pants, two shirts, and a jacket, and I've created a variety of fun items. To get an idea of how they were made, see last post.
