One of my favorite accessories would be the classic hair bow. They're great because using different colors and materials can create different feels and styles, all while keeping it a little sweet. It can be a straight up girly look with light gingham patterns or sweet white lace, or change the colors and patterns to take a classic look to an edgy level. Here's a fun step by step guide to making your own bow! Materials

First you will need to cut a rectangle of fabric- it should be about as wide as you want the bow and long enough for you to fold it three times up and down and have it at the desired length. Once you have your rectangle, go ahead and fold it over three times in the same direction. |
shaping
To give the bow it's classic shape, you must use a special sewing trick.
- Thread your needle and tie a knot at the end of the thread.
- Have your folded fabric in front of you going in a horizontal direction.
- Begin sewing up the middle of the fabric going over and under.
- When you reach the end, before you tie the ending know and cut the fabric, gently tug the thread to create pleats in your fabric, creating the correct shape.
- tie a knot and cute thread.
finishing the bow
Now that you have your bow shape, all you need is strip of fabric to cover the stitches. I would recommend folding the fabric strip a few times- just like how you folded the fabric at the beginning- and then wrapping it around the middle section and stitching it in the back. attaching to clip |
Now, simply sew your bow to the top of the clip!
- Open clip.
- Thread needle and go through the back of the bow with it.
- Now go around the to of the clip once, and then the bow and pull. Your bow should be loosely attached the the top of the clip.
- Continue going through bow and around the top of the clip until you feel the bow in secure.
Enjoy your bow, and know that your really can sew them to anything- hair ties, pins, hats, purses, etc. :)
